You can qualify as a PADI Scuba Instructor with our PADI IDC in Utila, Honduras, the whale shark capital of the Caribbean. The PADI Instructor Development Course is comprised of 2 different components. The first portion is the AI (Assistant Instructor) program. The 2nd portion is the OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor) program. The IDC develops candidate's abilities to prepare academic, confined water, and open water teaching presentations. As a PADI Instructor candidate you'll also learn about business principles, teaching children, risk management, and other important topics relevant for the dive professional. On our course at the Utila Dive Centre we have also added practical workshops during the IDC, to develop your ability to retail dive equipment and counsel divers into continuing education programs.

Unlike most PADI IDC facilities we schedule our IDC program over a period of 11 days (or 8 days with online learning option, see below) with a 'Preparation Program' included for those who arrive early and we have two resident Course Directors. This allows us to make the course much more relaxed and to give us more time to focus on individual counseling and development, which guarantees your success at the exams and in reality, when the training is implemented into real teaching. Our IDCs are scheduled to end 2 days before local PADI IEs commence, allowing time if necessary for our in-house Course Director to remediate with individual candidates.
For candidates who are already certified as PADI Divemaster prior to arriving on Utila for your IDC, there have been changes to the curriculum from January 2010, which now allow you to;
1) Study and pre-assess your dive theory online
2) Study 9 of the course presentations online, which can be used to save time from the course
With this option you'll start 3 days later than our 'live delivery' IDC, with the start date on the Saturday evening at 5pm. The course will then end one week later on the Sunday (with the EFR Instructor course) and then a day's fun diving on Monday prior to the IE on the Tuesday/Wednesday, allowing you to leave on the Thursday am flights. This takes just 13 days for the complete Instructor course, EFR Instructor and 2 day PADI Exams, and even less if you arrive on Utila already certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor.
There is an additional charge (paid to PADI) for each of these options, which all deliver convenience and value enhancement to the IDC. Please contact us for more information an to register for this option.
