PADI Rebreather Advanced Open Water Certification
This course builds upon the knowledge and skills taught in the PADI Open Water rebreather diver course but now qualifies divers to dive to depths of 30 meters/100 feet (40 meters/130 feet if holding PADI Deep specialty certification) on the Poseidon closed circuit rebreather (CCR) unit.
Knowledge development takes place through independent study with the PADI Advanced Rebreather diver manual (already part of the PADI Open Water Rebreather diver manual) and Instructor led prescriptive teaching, practical sessions in unit assembly and dive checks and the course includes 5 training dives with a minimum time on the unit of 240 minutes and additional in-water skills that cover breathing from another rebreather divers alternate air source, deploying a submersible marker buoy, rigging and carrying an additional off-board bail out tank, switching to both on-board and off-board bail out, and deeper dive planning on a closed circuit rebreather.
The PADI Advanced Rebreather Diver course goals are:
- Explain the need for and demonstrate the use of additional equipment required for diving deeper than 18 metres/60 feet.
- Plan and make dives using a Type R rebreather as deep as 30 metres/100 feet, or to 40 metres/130 feet if also certified as PADI Deep Divers.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to problems and emergencies that occur deeper than 18 metres/60 feet.
